Attitude to pensions is enough to worry the Government
As many as a third of all working-age adults have never contributed towards a private pension.
And almost half of employees are not members of a company pension scheme.
The figures are from a new survey - Attitudes To Pensions - despite a recognition from most of its respondents that saving for retirement is important.
The survey, commissioned by the Government, was released to coincide with the announcement of further details of a landmark scheme aimed at getting millions of employees saving for their future.
The proposed system of Personal Accounts - due to be implemented in 2012 - received support from the public [one person?], the survey indicated.
More than two-thirds of respondents backed the idea of auto-enrolment, with 84 per cent supporting the concept of a national pension saving scheme such as that proposed by the Government.[bull and shit come to mind!]
The study showed that knowledge of pension matters was generally very low at present. Fewer than 5 per cent of respondents felt they had a "good" understanding of pensions, with a quarter reporting that they knew little of nothing about them.
Worryingly, only a quarter of those quizzed agreed that they would definitely have enough money in their retirement to live comfortably.
Researchers interviewed 1,950 UK adults as part of the study.
